Camso V8 is, in essence, a race series for
American “ Late Model” stock cars.
Camso V8 uses an “off set” space frame chassis with a
Chevrolet 5.7 V8 engine, which develops around 450HP at
6300rpm.
This space frame chassis is built for ovals of up to 1 mile
in length with maximum speeds of approximately 220km/h
(140mph), so it is sufficiently strong for
Warneton Speedway.
The car weights 900kg (1980 pounds) without fuel or driver.
“Off set” means that the car is built asymmetrically with
about 57% of the weight to the inside.
The car is 5.05m long and 2m wide and is very similar to a
NEXTEL CUP car.
There are four different body types available, Chevrolet
Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus, Dodge Intrepid or Pontiac Grand
Prix.
The gearbox has 2 forward speeds and a reverse. The first
gear is used to start the car rolling until you reach about
40km (30mph). You then move to the second gear, which is
your race gear. You do not change the gear during the race.
The differential is 100% locked to give optimum traction on
an oval.
